Missing teeth will cause you to age due to bone loss. Only Dental Implants can stop the aging process and restore the facial structure.

As soon as the natural teeth are removed or fall out, the face begins to age rapidly due to bone loss. If you wait too long, the muscles that let you chew your food begin to shorten to accommodate the reduced space between your nose and your chin. Dental Implants are well known in their ability to stop bone loss and restore facial skeletal structure.

5 consequences from loss of teeth without replacement:

  1. Drifting of adjacent teeth: when there is a missing gap, opposing teeth may over-erupt adjacent teeth drift into the empty spaces resulting in food trapping and possible decay
  2. Difficulty chewing: missing teeth causes issues in chewing that could possibly result in indigestion
  3. Poor appearance and bone loss: loss of youthful and facial structure due to bone resorption
  4. Loss of lip support
  5. Poor speech: difficulty in speaking specially if front teeth are missing

A Dental Implant is an artificial replacement for the root part of a tooth. They can be mini or full. An implant takes the form of a small metal post which is cylinder shaped. The implant is inserted and allowed time to fuse with your bone. Once this has happened, a replacement tooth/crown can be fitted to it via a small attachment. Dental Implants look like real teeth. You can chew, brush and most importantly, eat like normal. With proper care, Dental Implants will last a lifetime.

What if I don’t have enough bone for Dental Implants?

Bone augmentation is now possible for either one tooth, several implanted teeth, or a full mouth. We can increase width of bone as well as its height, if necessary.

This procedure involves grafting (adding) bone or bonelike materials to the jaw. The graft can be your own bone or be processed bone. After grafting, you have to wait several months for the grafted material to fuse with the existing bone.  Also, if you’re upper back teeth are too close to the sinus, there is a procedure allowing us to shrink sinuses before bone can be added.

After bone augmentation, dentists usually wait four to nine months before placing implants.

What are the alternative treatments to Dental Implants?

Dentures are an affordable alternative to dental implants. However, dentures need on-going care.  Realignment is recommended every two years and you are often limited with food selection. Unfortunately, Dentures will not prevent or reverse bone loss.

In a recent Nobel Biocare International study, 75% of respondents with either a bridge, partial or full dentures would have chosen implants if they had known about bone loss.

Is there pain or discomfort?

We understand that surgery can be scary, which is why Dawson offers sedation options to relieve even the most severe anxiety. Approximately 35% of our patients choose to use either oral, nitrous or IV sedation to complete their treatment.

Cost of Dental Implants

Will my insurance benefits cover Dental Implants?

Most insurance companies classify dental implants as a cosmetic procedure and therefore don’t often offer coverage. However, the good news is that not all insurance companies classify implant procedures the same. There are a handful of insurance companies that can help you finance your implants.
