What Is a Dental Crown?
Porcelain dental crowns are custom-fitted restorations designed to strengthen and improve the appearance of damaged teeth. They are crafted to match the tone and shape of your natural teeth.
Your dentist will reduce and shape the affected tooth, take impressions that are sent to a lab for fabrication, and place a temporary crown while your permanent one is made. Once ready, the permanent crown is cemented onto your tooth.
Post-Root Canal Crowns
Porcelain dental crowns are recommended after root canal treatment because the tooth is left brittle and prone to fracturing, which could result in the need to extract the tooth.
Some patients may hesitate to get a crown due to cost, but skipping this step can lead to fractures that are difficult or impossible to repair—resulting in greater time and expense in the long run. That’s why completing root canal treatment with a crown is so important.
